Your child’s first years of school are filled with wonderful experiences and memories. It is a time of social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development, and it can come and go before you know it.

Preschool may look like all fun and games, but there is plenty of brainwork happening! Young children learn through play and creative activities; therefore, your preschooler’s building blocks and train tracks are not just for fun. They are teaching your child how to problem-solve and communicate. Preschool is also a time for developing good learning habits and positive self-esteem.

The most important concepts your child well learn this year, however, are Islam and the Arabic language. Your child will learn all about Allah (SWT) and Prophet Muhammad (S), and they will learn Qur’an and various du’aa.

The learning milestones your child will achieve include the following:

Letters and Sounds

Your child will learn to recognize and name all 26 uppercase letters and some lowercase letters. They will recognize their own first name and be able to print it. Your child will also develop a connection between letters and sounds and learn some of the sounds that letters make.

Colours, Shapes, and Objects

Educators will help your child recognize and identify numbers 1 through 10, and correctly count 10 or more objects. Your child will memorize the order of numbers and say them proudly as they count objects.

Your child will learn how to cut with scissors, and therefore, will develop better hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. They will also draw and colour beyond just scribbles, and will learn to use pencils, paintbrushes, and glue.

Socializing and Sharing

Developing important social skills is necessary before starting kindergarten. Your child will learn how to share and cooperate, work together and take turns, participate in group activities/follow simple directions, and communicate wants and needs.
