How is Al-Hijra Academy different than other Islamic schools?
Al-Hijra Academy combines Deen and Duniya. It is academically as strong as it is Islamically. It is a place for our students, teachers and families to learn a way of life not just facts and information to be passed to one another. What is its purpose?
Its purpose is to provide a service that will make for parental fulfillment and raise students to have the best success in Deen and Dunya.
How is the school held accountable?
Al-Hijra Academy is under the umbrella of Al-Hijra Mosque. The mosque functions and has a general board that is appointed/voted in by the Shura (Members of the Community). All functions and decisions made by the General Board are brought to the Shura for discussion/consultation and information. The School Board oversees the needs of the school and is there to facilitate the school administration in bringing forth the functions of the school. If any issues are unsolvable by the School Board they report to the General Board for assistance, consequently they also report to the General Board to keep them informed of activities that may affect the community at large. In addition, the Shura is also informed of the activities and decisions involving community participation, by the school board.
Who manages the school?
The school is managed by the General Director with the Principal upholding the daily activities of the school. They are in consultation with each other in providing the best learning opportunity and management to the school, staff, and families involved.
Where is the school located?
Al-Hijra is located at 5100 Howard Avenue, Windsor, Ontario.
How do I get to the school?
You can come by car, and or school bus is provided for a fee set out by the Bus company. The school is left off of Huron Church, approximately 500 meters on the left hand side of Howard.
If one is coming from downtown, Howard can be taken right up to the school and will be located on the left hand side of the road.
Who may apply?
Any one who chooses to enroll their children in the grades of preschool up until grade 8 are welcome to apply. People of all races and faiths are welcome to apply for their children to attend Al-Hijra Academy. Parents must accept their children learning the Islamic faith according to the Quran and Sunnah as well as other subjects in Arabic and French.
What is the school’s philosophy regarding discipline?
The purpose of discipline is to keep a safe environment for all students, staff and administration. Its purpose is to correct misbehaviour and encourage students to develop into responsible citizens.
Are there uniforms?
Yes – Al-Hijra Academy uniforms may be purchased at the T-Shirt Company of Windsor. You can find details, location and photos here.
Is there transportation?
Currently there is no Al-Hijra provided transportation to or from the school.
What is the length of a regular school day?
School commences at 8:20 AM and ends at 3:26 PM.
Is extended day provided?
Extended day/latch-key program is provided. Please contact the school to register for this program.
Are Friday class timings different?
Yes – Fridays are very special days for us as Muslims and to further instill in our students the religious significance of this blessed day Al-Hijra Academy School Board has decided to make Friday an early release day. Parents will pick up their children after Jummah prayer at 2:00 pm.
Is the staff qualified?
Al-Hijra staff members are qualified OCT educators, and/or are working on certification. They are all qualified in their respective field of work. Each teacher has been chosen to teach at Al-Hijra after having been interviewed and evaluated for their qualifications and skills as educators.
What is the class size?
Class sizes vary from 15 to 25 students per class.

What is expected of me as a parent?
To facilitate your child to attend school daily, and to provide them with the needed supplies to succeed at learning in the classroom. To keep communication between you and the school administration and staff open to provide the best path to allow your child to achieve their needs.

Is diversity valued?
Islam is a way of life. There is no tolerance for any discrimination of any source at Al-Hijra. Children of all races are welcome to attend Al-Hijra Academy and diversity is valued as an opportunity to learn about each individual in a respectful and considerate manner.
How can I give a helping hand?
Volunteers are always welcome. If you have a skill, service, or time you are welcome to inform the office in order to arrange a time for you to volunteer. There are requirements before one can volunteer and the information may be attained from the office.
